TW Kempton Pension Scheme finalises £1.5m buy-in with Just Group

The TW Kempton Pension Scheme has finalised a £1.5m buy-in with Just Group, securing the benefits of four pensioners and one deferred member.

The scheme was reported to be in surplus at the time of the transaction, which completed on 30 June 2026.

Cartwright Pension Trusts acted as investment adviser to the scheme, with Aptia providing administration services, Arc Pensions providing legal advice, and Dean Wetton Advisory (DWA) acting as broker.

According to TW Kempton director, Neil Hawthorn, the completed buy-in provides “greater security” for members and represents an “important milestone for the scheme”.

He praised the communication and support the scheme received throughout the transaction to through to completion.

Commenting on the process for smaller schemes, Cartwright Pension Trusts head of pensions investment, Yona Chesner, said: “Smaller schemes can face different considerations when assessing their options for risk transfer, and some trustees may not even realise that a transaction of this type is an option for their scheme.

“However, with the right preparation and advice, there is no reason why smaller schemes cannot take this path, securing members’ benefits while reducing the risks associated with running a legacy pension scheme.”

DWA managing director, Dean Wetton, added that, at £1.5m, “this transaction demonstrates that the risk transfer market can deliver for schemes of all sizes”.

Wetton cited close collaboration with the insurer and wider advisory team as important for the efficient progression of the transaction.
