French insurer, Macif, is to invest €1.5bn in sustainability initiatives between the end of 2025 and 2029, with particular attention being paid to the preservation of oceans, forests, and soil regeneration.
This move comes after the insurer stated that it significantly exceeded its 2025 investment targets — €670m invested compared to the targeted €300m. By the end of 2025, Macif had a total of €5.9bn in sustainable investments.
Furthermore, Macif continued to reduce the carbon intensity of its portfolio of private bonds and dedicated funds by the end of 2025, with a significant decrease of 20% achieved this year. While a third of this reduction is due to the actual decrease in greenhouse gas emissions from the companies in which Macif invests, the remainder is linked to its strategy of selecting more committed companies.
With a decrease of 42% since 2022, Macif has almost reached its objective of reducing the carbon intensity of its portfolio of private bonds and dedicated funds by 50% by 2030.
“Limiting global warming is no longer an option, it’s a collective necessity," Jean-Philippe Dogneton, CEO of Macif, stated.
"Businesses have a powerful lever to act: their investment choices. At Macif, we are mobilising our financial resources to support the transitions essential to a more sustainable economy."
