The International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) has appointed Gerry Cross as its next secretary general, effective 15 June 2026.
In this role, Cross will lead the IAIS secretariat and support the IAIS executive committee in advancing the IAIS’ strategic priorities and workplan, aimed at ensuring effective and globally consistent supervision of the insurance sector.
He brings nearly 30 years’ experience in financial services and regulation to the IAIS and will join the association from the Central Bank of Ireland, where he currently serves as director, capital markets and funds, leading a directorate of 220 staff. Prior to this, he held the role of director of financial regulation policy and risk.
“Gerry has served as a financial regulator for many years and has held several roles within the broader financial sector during his career. He brings a strong record of leadership, addressing challenging issues and working collaboratively,” said Toshiyuki Miyoshi, chair of the IAIS executive committee.
“With Gerry’s demonstrated experience and commitment to international cooperation, the IAIS is well-positioned to continue delivering on its strategic priorities.”
Cross will succeed Jonathan Dixon, who has served as secretary general since 2017.
