Total assets of China’s insurance companies and insurance asset management companies amounted to RMB 42.5trn as of the end of Q1 2026, up by 2.8% from the beginning of the year, new figures published by the National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA) have revealed.
Among those, assets of P&C insurers registered RMB 3.3trn, up by 5.9%; assets of personal insurance companies reached RMB 37.3trn, up by 2.6%; assets of reinsurance companies reached RMB 859.1bn, down by 0.2%, and assets of insurance asset management companies were RMB 152.4bn, up by 4.7%.
In Q1 2026, insurance companies recorded primary insurance premium income of RMB 2.3trn, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%.
As of the end of Q1 2026, the comprehensive solvency ratio of the insurance sector was 181%, and the core solvency ratio was 131.9%, both higher than the regulatory requirements of 100% and 50% respectively.
The comprehensive solvency ratios of P&C insurers, personal insurance companies and reinsurance companies were 242.6%, 170.7% and 207.4% respectively, and the core solvency ratios were 210.6%, 118.1% and 179.8% respectively.
