NN Group CIO, Jelle van der Giessen, has announced his retirement.
His decision marks the conclusion of a nearly 35-year career at NN Group and its predecessor ING – more than a decade of which he served as CIO.
“It has been a fulfilling and multifaceted journey across banking, asset management, and insurance—including several years in Bratislava and Madrid,” he stated.
“I’m grateful for the opportunities to contribute to investment strategy, risk frameworks, and the integration of sustainability—particularly in support of the growing role of responsible investing. Working with talented and dedicated colleagues around the world has been a true pleasure. Thank you to all who have contributed to the collaboration, shared insights, and professional trust over the years.
“Looking ahead, I’ve chosen a new direction. It’s a time for rest, reflection, and recharging though in my own way. In the coming months, I’ll be channelling my energy into a rigorous cooking course, travel, and time outdoors. Then in September, I will start my academic career in cultural anthropology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam—a decision inspired by a long-standing interest in human behaviour, values, and the societal dynamics that shape our world.”
Van der Giessen will remain in his role as adviser to the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC).
