The Folksam Group is investing SEK 200m in a green bond issued by Östersund Municipality, aiming to develop ongoing projects in renewable electricity and sustainable residential areas.

The Swedish insurance company consists of the KPA occupational pension insurance, which has invested SEK 88m, Folksam Life, which has invested SEK 44m, and Folksam occupational pension, which has invested SEK 32m, Consumer Cooperative Pension Foundation (SEK 10m), and Folksam Property (SEK 26m).

Examples of projects in the municipality that the investment will financially support include a wind farm, battery plant, and energy-efficient, innovative and sustainable residential areas.

Commenting on the investment, KPA Pension business developer, Mark Johnson, said: Östersund Municipality is working in many ways to limit climate change, which we see as very positive.

"Investing pension money in municipalities means increased opportunities for sustainable social development and contributes to a secure and good pension for everyone who works in municipalities and regions," he continued.

"We are the pension company for employees and employers in municipalities and regions.

"If our investments in that sector can contribute to increased interest in welfare jobs, we will have done great good with our customers' pension money," Johnson added.
