Achmea’s operational result falls to €492m despite positive performance of pension & life business

Dutch financial services firm, Achmea, saw its operational result fall by 13% to €492m in the first half of 2026, despite the positive performance of its pension & life Netherlands business, its interim results have shown.

The firm noted that lower results in its non-life and health segments were partially offset by higher results in its international, retirement services, and pension & life businesses.

In pension & life, Achmea’s operational result increased by 15% in H1 to €151m, primarily driven by increased scale and the combination with Lifetri.

Retirement services reported an operational result increase to €39m, partially due to a higher contribution from Achmea Bank and the loss provision for Achmea Pension Services from 2025.

Revenue increased by 8% to €295m and assets under management rose by 6% to €275bn.

Achmea’s solvency increased to 217%, driven by operational free capital generation of €1bn, and supported by the reinsurance of longevity risk at pension & life and the new internal capital model at Achmea Bank.

Earlier this year, Achmea reinsured half the longevity risk, covering around €8bn of pension liabilities, freeing up capital to support pension funds with buyouts.

"We have made a strong start to the year,” said Achmea executive board chair, Bianca Tetteroo.

“Thanks to the dedication and commitment of our colleagues, we are successfully delivering on our Next Level strategy towards 2030.

"With a sharp focus on execution, we are achieving tangible results and are well on track. I would like to explicitly thank our colleagues for their contribution.

“With our strategy, we respond to a world that is changing constantly. Guided by our vision 'Sustainable Living, Together' and our cooperative roots, Achmea stands at the heart of society.

“Together, we work each day on solutions that support people, both now and in the future.”
